Turn Every Page - The Adventures of Robert Caro and Robert Gottlieb
Spotlight Documentary
Feature | United States | 112 MINUTES | EnglishNew York, Documentary, Politics, Biography, Journalism
For 50 years, a unique and lovingly cantankerous professional relationship has existed between the iconic, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Robert Caro and his editor, literary giant Robert Gottlieb. Beginning in the early 1970s with The Power Broker, Caro’s timeless exploration of power and NYC, via the machinations of Robert Moses, they have worked together to produce Caro’s repertoire of exhaustively researched and exquisitely edited works. Now, with Caro in the midst of finishing his fifth and final tome on LBJ, both Gottlieb and the world wait impatiently for what will likely be their final collaboration.
Via the intimate lens of Gottlieb’s daughter, director Lizzie Gottlieb, audiences are invited to delight in the fascinating, intersecting stories of these two fabulously brilliant individuals—from Caro’s intensely regimented writing process to Gottlieb’s stature as preeminent ballet critic and historian, and celebrated author in his own right. So unlike one another in personality but with a charming frisson that ultimately produces gold, Caro and Gottlieb make for a wonderfully entertaining pair to witness. With commentary from Conan O’Brien, David Remnick and President Bill Clinton.--Liza Domnitz
